*INTERNAL COMMANDS
NOTE : If you want to display the function and syntax of the following commands , type the keyword followed by a slash ( / ) and a question mark (? ) .
Ex. A:\> DIR/?
1. Date – change the systemdate.
Syntax :
DATE mm-dd-yy
2. TIME – change the systemtime .
Syntax:
TIME hh-mm-ss
3. CHANGING THE DRIVE prompt

4. CLS – clears the screen.
Syntax :

5. VER – displays the DOS version.

6. DIR – display the directory information

7. COPY – copy file or files.

8. RENAME – rename or change the name of file or files.
Syntax:
REN <t.d:><oldfilename>.ext> <newfilename.ext>
9. DEL / ERASE – remove file or files .
Syntax:
DEL <t.d:><filename.ext>
10. VOL – displays the volumename.
Syntax:
VOL
11. PROMPT – changes the DOSprompt
Syntax:
PROMPT [text][parameters]
12. TYPE – displays the contents of a file
Syntax:
TYPE <t.d:><filename.ext>
TWO KINDS OF WILDCARDS :
a. asterisk ( * ) – can occupy one or more characters.
b. question mark ( ? ) – can occupy only one character.
*EXTERNAL COMMANDS
1. FORMAT – initializes the disk with a recording format that is acceptable to DOS.
Syntax:
FORMAT <t.d:>[parameters]
2. SYS – transfer system files to disk.
Syntax:
SYS <t.d:>
3. CHKDSK – display information about the disk.
Syntax:
CHKDSK <t.d:>
4. DISKCOPY – instructs DOS to copy the entire contents of a source disk to a target disk.
Syntax:
DISKCOPY<s.d:> <t.d:>
5. LABEL – changes the volume name of the disk.
Syntax:
LABEL <t.D:>.
