ELEMENTS OF COMPUTER SYSTEM :
PROGRAM
HARDWARE COMPONENTS:
A. CENTRALPROCESSING UNIT ( CPU )
-Performs arithmetic operations such as addition , substraction , division , multiplication and logical operations like sorting and comparing of data.
2. CONTROL UNIT
-Decodes the instructions and intiates the actions called for by these instructions.
3. MEMORY / STORAGE UNIT
-Where the instructions and data are stored while processing is done.
I. READ ONLY MEMORY ( ROM )
B. INPUT / OUTPUT DEVICE
I.PUNCH CARD
2. MAGNETIC MEDIA
I. MAGNETICTAPE / DISK
3. OTHER MEDIA
I.VISUAL DISPLAY TERMINAL
SOFTWARE
- Is a set of computer programs which makes the hardware operate on some data to generate the necessary information.
PROGRAM
- A set of intructions for the computer to follow.
- The physical devices that constitute a computer system.
HARDWARE COMPONENTS:
A. CENTRALPROCESSING UNIT ( CPU )
- Is the brain or the nerve center of the computersystem.
- Contains permanently stored instructions that requires a computer to do its basic , routine operations.
- Store instructions you give it . It can be later erase or changed.
- Is a physical device separate from CPU where information are stored.
B. INPUT / OUTPUT DEVICE
- For communication with the environment of the system.
I.PUNCH CARD
- Paper cards on which holes have been punched are present letters, digits and special characters.
- The lost commonly known output of a computer.
- Also printing devices that convert digital computer into colored instructions on sheet of paper.
2. MAGNETIC MEDIA
I. MAGNETICTAPE / DISK
- Is a commonly used media for transferring data to and from the CPU.
- The physical I-O Drive where data are read and written on the tape / disk surface using read / write heads
3. OTHER MEDIA
I.VISUAL DISPLAY TERMINAL
- Is a physical device which combine the function on input / output.
- Have built –in microcomputers and special graphics software.
SOFTWARE
- Is a set of computer programs which makes the hardware operate on some data to generate the necessary information.
